Huaraz, Peru
We're on day four here in Peru, and not a dull moment has passed. Exotic fruits, mountains that tower above those in my dreams, and kind, humble people have filled the time here so far. A ten hour bus ride on day one dropped us in the town of Huaraz, a gorgeous bustling city of about 100,000 people. Here, we've bouldered above the town, visited the local market, enjoyed local juices and meats, shopped for additional gear, and spent time among what is quickly becoming a close family. Since I entered this expedition with only moderate familiarity with the people I would be spending six weeks with, I didn't exactly know what to expect. But the past few days have proved that a month in the company of these friends will pass all too quickly, with non stop laughter, adventure, and support. We'll be venturing into the mountains on Thursday, only after we celebrate my birthday with a Peruvian celebration this evening. Based on the fact that "because it's Thursday" is a legitimate excuse for a parade (and yes, we have seen random decorated floats pass through the streets at given moments), I think it's going to be a good birthday.Enjoy these photos from the last few days, and like "The Incan Odyssey" on facebook to follow our adventure over the next month!
